Abstract: As a treasure of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture has evolved over two thousand years. Its efficacy and neurobiological mechanisms have been verified by modern research, and it is widely applied in the diagnosis and treatment of human and animal diseases. As a modernized modification of acupuncture, electroacupuncture enhances acupoint effects via electrical stimulation, further expanding the application scope of acupuncture in veterinary medicine. This paper systematically reviews the research progress of acupuncture and electroacupuncture in diseases of dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals, focusing on four core conditions: analgesia, anti-inflammation, movement disorders and gastrointestinal diseases, and elaborates on their mechanisms of action and clinical applications. Meanwhile, this paper puts forward the prospect that future research still needs to further clarify the mechanisms of action of acupuncture, optimize its treatment parameters, and improve the evidence-based medicine system, so as to promote the precise and scientific application of acupuncture techniques in the field of veterinary medicine, and provide green and efficient traditional Chinese veterinary treatment plans for animal health protection.

Key words: acupuncture, electroacupuncture, anti-inflammatory, analgesia, movement disorders, gastrointestinal diseases
